they celebrated by drinking beer, smoking cigars and other weird stuff….. one of the chick was 18 yrs old
i think this is wrong and illegal, they should REPEAT the game one more time
this is an olympics not a local league sports, oh sweet Canada, when are you going to learn
Pretty petty stuff being broadcast on here this morning. Petty…petty…petty. I guess the cases of beer, champagne and cigars that the US team had standing by will have to be put into storage.
lmao. Spoken like a true sore loser.
In Canada, the legal drinking age is not 21. I think they should celebrate, they deserve it! Even the american team should celebrate, they WON silver. Better than nothing
But I know in America’s eye, they didn’t win silver, they lost gold.
In the USA the legal age is 21. Not in Canada.
They should repeat the game one more time because of their winning celebration? Are you kidding me?!?!
Last weekend an snowboarder had to leave Olympics early for what the international committee called bad behavior of an Olympic medalist
I can not believe that any in the Olympics did not hear of that story
For that reason, the Canada team should of knew that what they did would not be good behavior to the international committee
Like the snowboarder, the team should skip the closing ceremonies
They are agree to act in a way that the international committee will approve
In all fairness, the coach or some team member should realized that drinking and smoking on the ice wearing the medals, would be a problem with the international committee
Like the snowboarder, I think it just a kids doing dumb things
Also like the snowboarder, they should have to pay the price
That seem to be not going to the closing ceremonies and leaving the Olympics
Lmao, yeah right, repeat the game. Unbelievable the puritanical views from south of the border. Hope you’re enjoying your Silver.
Repeating the game because of how a team celebrated AFTER the game is not something that would be in the best interests of the sport. Although I am a United States resident, I felt that the Canadians beat us fair and square. The Canadian goaltender was a brick wall, stopping everything thrown at her. I was hoping that the US could muster a goal, but as the game got later, it was not meant to be.
Although disappointed, I thought the US Women’s team handled everything well. They couldn’t celebrate a victory like Canada and Finland were able to. But they took their Silvers proudly.
Now for the post-game celebration: These ladies can celebrate the way they want to, as long as they didn’t repeat what the US Men’s Hockey team did when they lost in the 1998 Nagano winter games, and as long as they don’t put lives at risk doing so. Legality-speaking, it should be legal, but ion the case of the 18 year old woman, it was illegal. However, everyone else who is 19 years or older, it is legal to drink alcoholic beverages in the province of British Columbia. So for those 19 and 20, you cannot throw them in the category of “illegal drinking”, because although it is here in the US, it isn’t up north. And in some provinces, the legal age is 18.
I agree with you that it was the wrong place and the wrong time, as well as a bad example, but replaying the game? That seems a bit extreme. I’m sure they’ll be reprimanded by the IOC, and I think that’s plenty.
I’m sick of the celebration police. Let them celebrate however they want.
Yes, you are right, Canada is sweet. They were doing other weird stuff?? Really?? Do you remember the weird stuff the US women’s team did when we won in 2002, trashing our flag. I guess you would call that appropriate behaviour, when will you Americans learn, it is NOT all about you.
If it had been the US team, would you be calling for a rematch?
Here is the problem: the IOC is seriously considering the elimination of the sport from the Games. These antics are not doing the IIHF any favors in arguing with the IOC that the sport should remain. The one thing the IOC hates with a passion is bad publicity due to idiocy.
I agree with you man. I think that was ridicioulous for any team to try that. I can bet you if they were black the media would be over them like they were with tiger woods. And the 18 yr old drinking was illegal. You have to be 19 in Canada. I dont care if they were celebrating to me it seemed like the whole game and ceremony was just biased to canada. Canada are sore winners
They won fair and square.
What happened after the game is neither here nor there.
As to the “legality” of what they did, that’s between them and the Canadian LEGAL system, not the IOC.
